Philmont Scholarships from the Catholic Committee on Scouting
This is announcement is about as late as it possibly can be, and we apologize
for that. We plan to be much more organized next year. If you ever have
questions about what programs are coming up, please go to our web site:
http://true64.youthsite.org/index.cfm?
PAGE_ID=135&EXPAND=135 You can also find our website by going
to archkck.org and going to Youth Ministry.
First: The Catholic Committee on Scouting for our archdiocese
will be offering two scholarships to the biennial St. George's Trek at
Philmont July 11, 2006 thru July 26, 2006. The total cost, excluding transportation
to Philmont, will be $600 The archdiocese will subsidize $300 of that
cost. Each scout will get themselves to Philmont. Our committee needs
to get those applications in now. Actually, a couple of weeks ago would
have been even better, so if you know someone who would like to attend,
I should hear from you immediately. Again, sorry about the late notice.
Here is an excerpt from the National website about the requirements,
"Catholic Boy Scouts and Venturers who will be fifteen years of age
on or before July 11, 2006 and in High School in the fall of 2006 are
eligible to apply. NO exceptions can be made. The Saint George Trek is
a one time only experience for youth. Previous youth participants are
not eligible." http://www.nccs-bsa.org/activities/trek.php
This is really past due, so if you have any outstanding scouts or venturers
who are interested in going, and would like to be one of the two representing
our archdiocese, please contact me asap.
Second: Good news: While I was using the national web
site to compile this email to you, I noticed a college scholarship offered.
Bad news: applications are due tomorrow.

J. Doerr Memorial Distinguished Scout Scholarship to be awarded to three
outstanding Catholic high school seniors who are Scouts in a BSA program

in the Eligibility Requirements section on this page. Applications are
due to the NCCS office by April 1 of each year. http://www.nccs-bsa.org/business/EJDscholarship.php
