POWDER HORN - High Adventure Skills Resource Course
August 15th - 17th, 2008 and September 5th - 7th, 2008
Powder Horn is a comprehensive, hands-on course that goes from early morning until late in the evening and includes a backpack overnight. This course is appropriate for Venture Crew Advisors, Sea Scout Skippers, Troop Scoutmasters, Varsity Coaches & Unit Leaders interested in the Ranger or high adventure programs, with goals to move their crew, troop, team, or ship to the next level.
VENTURING SPRING EVENT - APRIL 11-13, 2008
The VOA is hosting a Venturing Spring Event at the H. Roe Bartle Scout Reservation. This event is designed to help crew members achieve advancement towards outdoor awards. Weekend activities include: Backpacking, Mountaineering (climbing), Wilderness Survival and Rifle/Pistol Shooting.

D.O.E. DEN LEADER OUTDOOR EXPERIENCE - May 2-3, 2008
The purpose of D.O.E. is to help leaders of Cub Scouts become more aware of outdoor activities; and help them use Cub Scout Outdoor skills. Skills that will be covered include Cub Scout hikes, outdoor games, cooking, knife safety, knots and more - plus fun and fellowship with fellow Scouters!
Leaders will have the option to take either the BALOO part of the course-sleep in a cabin with a bunk - or the Webelos Outdoor Leader part of the course - where you will sleep in a ten out in the outpost section of Rotary Camp. You will need to bring a tent with you.

*General Cub Information - required for all leaders -
overview of how cub scouts works
*Youth Protection - required for all leaders - teaches
awareness of child abuse
*Job Specific Training - required for all leaders - overview
of specific requirements for position in pack - den leaders, webelo den
leaders, cubmasters, committee members
*WLOE - Webelo Leader Outdoor Experience - required for
all Webelos leaders wanting to camp out as a den/patrol
*Trek Safely - Policies and procedures involved in planning
a trekking activity for your unit. Recommended for Boy Scout and Venturing
Leaders.
*Bike Safety - Policies and procedures involved in planning
a unit biking activity. Recommended for all Scout Leaders.
*Cave Exploring - Policies and procedures involved in
planning a caving activity for youth 14 years of age or older. Recommended
for Boy Scout and Venturing Leaders.
*Safety Afloat - Will help Scouters understand and appreciate
the most important and essential elements of aquatics safety and teach
them how to organize and conduct a safe unit activity afloat. Recommended
for leaders in Cubs, Boy Scouts, Varsity Scouting and Venturing.
*Safe Swim Defense - Procedures on how to conduct a safe
unit swim under unit leadership. Recommended for leaders in Cubs, Boy
Scouts, Varsity Scouting and Venturing.
*Snorkeling - Policies and procedures involved in planning
a snorkeling activity for your unit. Recommended for all Scout Leaders.
*Climb on Safely - Designed to acquaint leaders with
the BSA's recommended procedure for organizing safe climbing and rappelling
activities for units at both natural sites and specially designed facilities.
This is not a certification course. Recommended for Scouters in all levels
of the program.
*Health & Safety - Recommended for all Scout Leaders,
especially those involved in transporting Scouts.
*Youth Protection Training - Required for all Scout Leaders
to be basic trained. (Youth Protection for Venturing Leaders is provided
as part of their Basic Training Course.)
*MB Counselor Orientation - Everything you need to know
about being a merit badge counselor.
Remember, training is for ADULTS – NO children allowed.
